Another Night in Paradise.....????

Sometimes Parker decides he wants to torcher me. Of course hes a baby and doing his thing but some nights he really makes me work. Last night was a perfect example. Parker went to bed right at his normal time of 9:pm . I thought i was in the clear because he was right on schedule with all his naps for the day. He had a big bottle of rice milk which sits heavy in his belly so he doesn't wake up for his midnight feedings. Well that's what i thought. Last night he woke up at 3 am squirming around and farting. So i wake up and feel is diaper make sure hes not sitting in Dodie and pee. He goes crazy right after he dumps usually. I pick him up, and yea the diapers full and I'm struggling to wake up. As i am taking off his diaper and getting him a new one i started to realize my arm and neck are getting really warm. I reach up to feel it and its wet, and then it sprays in my eye and i realize Parker has been pissing on me for a little bit now and i didn't even notice. YUUUUUUCKKKK i covered him up and waited for him to finish and then had to change all his clothes and the changing table cloth . Not to mention all my clothes which are now soaked in piss, and the poop filled diaper that landed face down on my bare foot when i jumped back to avoid the piss. Wow, so there i am to say the least soaked in piss n shit. Parker is screaming bloody murder cause hes wet from the wash cloth i wiped him down with and hes sitting on the plastic sheet on the mattress freezing. I finally get the PJ's on him and my wife is trying to talk to me wondering whats going on. "aaahhhhhhhhh" i screamed .... laughing and crying in my head. Finally i got him dialed up and got a bottle in his mouth. After finishing his bottle he squirmed around for about a half hour and finally went to sleep. What a blessing! So i get back into bed and shut my eyes for a bit. Right around 5am he's up again, squirming and crying these little cry's not loud enough to wake Lindsay up. just me! So I'm up again and changing a diaper. Luckily this time it was so soaked in piss it was almost hanging off him. which means I'm in the clear and no piss firing at me as i change him. I get him back into bed with out a bottle, (which is a first for me) and he didn't wake up again until 7;45 IN WHICH I'M UP FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. Luckily tonight its not my night and i get to sleep. I cant wait, sorry lindsay i love ya. but hellll ya.

Mikey Taylor tie's the knot...........

Every time i go to a wedding i turn into a softy. Maby its all the decorations and the feeling of family all around you, but i really get into weddings. When two people really look at there childhood and the road they traveled to find each other they feel relief. Relief that it all meant something, it was all for a purpose. They get to celebrate all those great memories they had trying to find each other and all the experiences along the way. They remember all there FIRST's and all there ever again's, lol. They kinda close the book on all the early days and set there sights on the future. On July 24th 2010 Mikey and Jen Tied the knot. Ive had the pleasure of knowing them for a short time but every time we've been together Ive been able to tell that these two are made for each other. Mikey and i surf together at least once a week. During these sessions we usually end up talking about life and all the traveling he does, lol. If there's one thing I've gotten from our time together is that hes a very positive, passionate person. He loves what he does and he loves his Girl. He treats his family with respect and his friends as a friend should. Mikey's and all around good guy and i couldn't be more happy for him. Jen is very charismatic, she is always smiling and always has a very calming, comforting sense of being. Shes is definitely an artist at heart witch is what i think has brought them together. To artistic minds combined is a beautiful thing. That another person can carry a similar picture of heaven and peace in there mind to help remind you when your vision is cloudy. I think that they will live a very happy life together and cant wait to plan some anniversary trips in the future because now our wedding dates are only a week apart. It was just one year ago today that myself and my wife Lindsay were running around getting ready for our big day. Weddings come and go so fast. You spend a year planning for them and when the time comes you feel like its only a blink of an eye, But the images never go away. I can remember the first time me and Lindsay locked eyes when she first walked down the isle, and the song that played durring our first dance. I guess in the end weddings do every thing there suppose to. They make our family's work together to create a beautiful image of a bond that is forever. So take a note from surfer dad over here and if your getting married DO IT RIGHT, give your girl a beautiful day and a beautiful memory. I'm so happy for you MIKEY AND JEN, cant wait to see your family grow,

PS<> Mikey. call me dude, lets go surf, I cant believe your in Bali right now, me and lizzle are so jealous

WHATS IN YOUR QUIVER....?

Trying to figure out what to have in your everyday beach quiver is always a chore. Of course, you want to ride a high performance surfboard, but chances are around here "the waves probably suck". My Dad and I are always brainstorming new ideas and always asking questions. What kind of materials float best? Which are the easiest to shape? AND most of all what can i afford? I personally have had the best luck with epoxy foam and resin, as far as float and strength. But, the materials are very hard to work with and most guys who make them like to take advantage of the light weight by adding more glass to increase the strength even more. The problem is that if you use to much glass you l
ose your flex and your board will feel stiff. I personally believe that an epoxy board should have less glass, than a normal board. Then it gets the flex and is still as strong as a poly board. The other thing out there right now is wood. Let's get one thing clear, the wood surfboards are strictly for looks. Don't let anyone fool you, as
far as real surfing, they suck. Yea pros can ride them and make it look cool, but i promise you... YOU CANT! Even the Ancient Hawaiian boards people are recreating are very hard to ride. AND trying to make something like that, into your everyday board, is just a bad idea. If you get past all the materials, you realize that creating a quiver for So Cal is actually simple, DON'T BUY INTO THE HYPE. You know what works best for you. I believe that a true California quiver should consist of three boards. First, your Board for 'real' surfing (whatever it may be always be ready for good surf). My second board is gonna be something for small waves only. I like a normal short board template with a pulled tail and lots of thickness and
definitely a single fin. Believe it or not, single fins have a lot of drive, so if you get up and pump the wave, you can get great down the line speed (even on a knee high wave). My third and final board is a hand board. Gotta have a hand board. I make one out of epoxy that works good, but there are a ton of ways to make them. The easiest way is out of Papilo wood . Its really easy to shape and a standard wood sealer will work as a resin. There is no need for fiberglass cloth, just seal it. I think Lind seed oil is good too (I think that's what it's called). I haven't used it, but I hear good things. Personally, I have traveled thru so many
little barrels on my hand board. I swear by it. This is a must have in my three board quiver. So there it is... if your still trying to decide between poly and epoxy on your next stick, go poly if your buying off the rack and epoxy if your making it. You may get a good epoxy off the rack, but it probly won't happen twice. Actually i take that back, I don't want to be a hater because ROBERT WIENER, from Ventura, makes sick epoxy. I worked for him when he first got started. He probably won't remember, but i use to beat it into his head that you don't need as much glass with epoxy. He's the only guy i seen making performance epoxy in a true custom board. He's laminating them with a 4oz DECK x 4oz BOTTOM with a 4oz deck patch and they are super strong and light as shizzy. Now I'm sure people are gonna be like blah blah, your wrong, blah blah, but this is just my opinion and i don't Trust to many shapers. I guess i got tired of waiting 6 months for a board that didn't work . Also working in a glass shop glassing every shapers boards in the area i learned that shapers dont give a shit about the glass job, and if your a kook your gonna get treated like one. I know you think there your friends but most shapers just want your money" there broke ass shapers", That's why you gotta make it. When I'm choosing materials for a board I personally go poly, strictly for the the fact that the flex is what i like and am used to plus I'm always fixing dings and solar resin drys quickly. Epoxy is so slow and that it's hard to work with. Even when i worked for another board maker (which I can't name), that only makes epoxy. The boards would constantly drain out of the nose and tail when you'd lam them. We were always patching tips and tails before hot coats because the resin in the corner folds would drain out, It's a nightmare. On top of it we were putting 3 layers of 4oz cloth on the deck of a 6'2 -just doesn't make sense to me. So when choosing a epoxy board you gotta be picky. try and give it a little flex on the rack see how it feels and dont ever ride the XTR shit, cause that's what it is. SHIT. anyway as you can see Ive been doing this for a long time and get a little worked up but hey, its a blog and I'm here to just ramble.....so listen up. Poly is the best way. If you need a magic board i suggest almost any AL. Merrick off the rack with normal glass. Or go get a custom board from Roberts. hes on the web. OR STOP BEING A LITTLE GIRL AND GO MAKE YOURSELF A BOARD. (IF YOU ARE A GIRL,,,,,,YOU GO GIRL ...MAKE THAT SURFBOARD.....

Alright that's my surf rant for the day. OH, by the way i surfed Leo Carrillo today, 4ft and perfect. Ha-Ha!!!

(Below Clint Allen, loves a normal short board. Pt. Huneme tube.....)

Another Day with Surfer DAD

-SURFER DAD

Meet Parker, My BOY. He's just about 4 months old and I'm loving everyday. Lately i've been blessed with being able to spend a lot of time with him as i finish school and start a new career. We wake up every morning together at about 7 and take a shower, which he loves and needs. LOL! We go down stairs and i usually read him a book , let him watch a surf video, or just play with him. He'll eat his bottle and go back to bed at around 9 to take a little nap and give me a chance to get some work done in the garage. See i run a ding repair business out of the garage and balance being a stay at home DAD, surfboard maker/repair dude, student, and starting a career in medicine is not easy. I can't wait to get back to a normal job with one set schedule. When He wakes up, i have to run upstairs, change, and get all the dust off me before i can even pick him up. Its a race to say the least. Its amazing to me how good of a baby he is. He hardly ever cries and hes always smiling and laughing. Ive been doing everything i can to introduce him to the water in a positive way and we have taken him to the beach a few times. But, this weekend was his first "official" all day-er. He loved it, he was grabbing sand, and digging his feet into the waterline. When he was in his chair he starred off into the ocean and seemed completely content. I got a good feeling he's gonna love the ocean. I must say it's weird not having all the freedoms i did before Parker came, but to be honest, i was actually kind of getting bored in my life and i think this baby was just the bump start i needed to get my priorities in order. Everyone always wonders how hard it is? How do i deal with the late night feedings and all the poop! Well ill tell ya, I got a great wife!!!! And to be honest we love it. Yea it sucks to get up throughout the night and it's hard to just drop everything. But ive been there... done that and I'm comfortable being with my family everyday. Today is no different. I just put Parker down for his afternoon nap. I got the dishes done for the wifey and cleaned the living room. I spent all morning doing work, so now I'm writing and it's a really nice day. The silence of the house is so soothing and the birds occasionally chirping outside reminds me that things are just how they should be. There's a big south swell in the water right now. I know that's a little random, but that's what I'm thinking about. I cant believe how big hes getting. I'm watching him sleep right now and i cant believe he's barley 4 months old and wearing 12month old clothes. Just like his daddy, for sure. Anyway I'm off to finish shaping this weird point break, egg board experiment i got cooking in the garage. i gotta get this thing done before winter and at the rate I'm going ill be lucky if i do. Got my Baby-com on my hip so i can hear him, some pennywise (very Quietly) ROCKING in the background, and my shaping hands ready. Peace out.

First off

WHO Me? Aaron Wright, I'm a nice guy. i think! and yea i've been around the block a few times, learned a few things the hard way, broke a few cars, hitch hiked across California, probably lived on your couch and definitely had to get bailed out by dad more than just few times. But hey! F@#k it! i had a hell of a ride. Made a few friends and broke a few hearts, but for the most part i think i did alright.

I got tons of great surf at some of the best spots on earth. I've snowboarded the freshest powder at the most beautiful mountains. I've Ridin' glassy warm lakes on my wake skate and i have literally driven everywhere across this great country. I've dedicated my life to board sports until now. About 4 years ago somethin happened to me that would change my life forever. I fell in love......

I had my eye on her for some time and never really thought i could get her. She was a prize. She was very intelligent, creative and had a confidence about her that just blew me away. She was definitely everything i ever wanted in a girl, and to top it all off, she was drop dead gorgeous. So, of course, the street signs started steering me in a new direction. We lived in Northern California for a long time as she finished school and i explored the rugged North West coast.

Along the way, our love became invincible, we built a trust and friendship like I've never had, and a love that i knew was strong as oak. I loved having my girl around so much that i got lost in my little world either surfing by myself or hanging with my lady. I was loving life. in early March 2008 i decided it was time. During a trip to Hawaii for my birthday i proposed to her on the beach in Waikiki. She said yes and Ive had the confidence of a lion ever since. We were married august 1st in Beverly hills and were on our way to the life of our dreams.

Not long after came our first child, Parker Osten Wright. The light of our life, a blessing from god, and hands down the cutest damn thing i have ever scene. My life has become a whirl wind, i used to surf everyday and now i surf once a week if I'm lucky, but i find that i get more enjoyment from the little things.

I'm making my own boards in the garage now and spending time changing my career from surfing to medicine. I just finished Medical assistant training and am working for Kaiser permente in the valley. My life has changed, Now im a
simple man with a family and I'm loving it. Its tough trying to be a surfer and a dad, but just like my dad did... You make it work. I'm sure as he gets older he'll share my love for the ocean but until then its daddy day care. All the trials and tribulations of being a first time father I'm taking head on. The late night feedings, the diapers, the crying, the love, i got it all and a beautiful wife to share it with. Life has been fun and exciting. so I'm here to share it with ya, HERE'S THE FIRST ENTRY IN MY STORY AS A SURFER DAD.
